The answer is yes! Twitter is one of the 50 most popular websites in the world. Go to Twitter.com, create your account (a name related to your business), and start posting. You can create posts by sending an SMS to the site from your registered cellphone, from the site itself, or an application you have downloaded to your smart-phone device such as an iPhone or Blackberry. Note, if you send SMS’, you may be charged per message sent by your carrier, depending on your plan however, a lot of cell providers are including so many text messages per month now.
There is a 140 character limit on your post, if you add a link in your message, you may shorten it by using a URL service such as http://bit.ly/ which will allow for more characters in your post.
Search for people in your town, or existing customers to follow, most of them will start following you. Let your customers know you are on Twitter by adding a link to your business’ website. You can also add it to your business card, or put up a sign in your establishment. Your profile link will look something like this http://twitter.com/MyProfileExample
You can let people know about new products and services you are offering, daily specials, know you are open for a holiday.
We are not saying you will become Ashton Kuther, but a small and gradual following can help you gain an strong local online presence.
